PACE Microcredential & Volunteering

The Microcredential in Equitable Activity, Mobility, and Community Health is administered by the Physical Activity Centre of Excellence (PACE) and the Department of Kinesiology in the Faculty of Science.

This microcredential provides undergraduate students with the opportunity to integrate coursework and experiential learning focused on advancing health equity through physical activity, mobility, and community engagement.

 

Students will:

    • Gain a strong foundation in inclusive health promotion
    • Develop professional competencies alongside exercise professionals
    • Engage directly with community members through applied practice and volunteer experiences at PACE

Learning Outcomes

      • Understand how equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility (EDIA) shape physical activity, mobility, and community health
      • Apply evidence-based practice and inclusive design principles to improve health outcomes for diverse populations
      • Develop professional communication, leadership, and person-centred delivery skills in applied settings
      • Critically engage with clients and communities to co-create equitable health solutions
      • Translate research and theory into practice through experiential and community-based learning

Course List

      • PACE 1A01 – Foundations of Equitable Activity, Mobility, and Community Health – No prerequisites required.
      • PACE 2A03* – Professionalism in Equitable Activity, Mobility, and Community Health
      • PACE 3A03* – Applied Practice in Equitable Activity, Mobility, and Community Health
      • PACE 4A00* – Advanced Practice in Equitable Activity, Mobility, and Community Health

      *Note: Requires permission to enroll. Only successful applicants will be provided a waiver.

Please note that students enrolled in PACE 2A03, PACE 3A03, or PACE 4A00 must complete 60 placement hours during the semester in which they are enrolled in that course. To earn the microcredential, students must complete a minimum of 180 cumulative placement hours across all three courses.

Requirements

Any student in an undergraduate degree program at McMaster may declare this microcredential at the time of graduation, provided they complete:

      • PACE 1A01, PACE 2A03, PACE 3A03, and PACE 4A00
        (7 units total, including placement and volunteer hours)

Completion will be formally recognized on transcripts as:
Microcredential in Equitable Activity, Mobility, and Community Health.
