Graduate Studies in Kinesiology
We are a thriving group of researchers and students who aim to be the leading Kinesiology program in Canada and recognized among the world’s best in research, teaching, community engagement and knowledge translation. We offer research-based M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees linked to our three primary areas of focus: integrative physiology, mechanics and control of movement, and neuroscience and behaviour.
Many of our students pursue integrative research with applications to human health, rehabilitation and performance. The results can help?children, people with disabilities, those with particular medical conditions or challenges, young and middle-aged adults, and those looking to age optimally.?Funding for our research comes from all of Canada’s three major funding councils, SSHRC, NSERC, and CIHR, and from a wide variety of private and public agencies.
We are committed to providing a collegial, interactive, and enriching experience for our students. National and international exchanges of students with other research groups are common and seen as a terrific supplement to your studies. Our students have enjoyed tremendous success in obtaining external funding for their work. About 45% of our M.Sc. students and 55% of our Ph.D. students are externally funded. All students who qualify for entrance are encouraged to apply for some form of funding from a variety of agencies, including the Tri-Council agencies and the Ontario Graduate Scholarships.
Where to start? First look at our faculty profiles and find someone with whom you might be interested in working, then contact them. Seek their advice and explore potential research projects. Then you can begin the application process. Typically, we begin accepting applications for the next academic year each November (for entry for the following September). We occasionally accept students who start in January. We are always interested in qualified applicants and can and we make decisions regarding students on an ‘ad hoc’ rolling basis, so feel free to contact a faculty member directly about his or her interest in supervising any time of year.
What can I do with my degree? Our graduates have pursued a number of careers in academia, health-related professions, teaching, sales, pure research, and a number of other areas. No matter what your end goal, we can provide you with an excellent graduate experience.
If you have questions, please contact our Graduate Administrator.
